Six-Year-Old Creates App Concept to Help Peers Learn to Read While Giving Back to the World

learn-to-read-appNew app concept and books provide young readers with the four items they need to enjoy reading. Learn to Read Adventures allows the readers to choose their own path through the interactive stories while supporting artisans in developing nations. The Learn to Read Adventures app is ready for beta testing and the Kickstarter campaign will be launching in the next month.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 27, 2014 – Parents who have struggled to get their children to enjoy reading will now have a new option available. Learn to Read Adventures puts the child in the story so they enjoy learning to read. This concept was created by a child for other children.

After a difficult night of attempting to read, six-year-old, James O’Donnell said to enjoy reading, a story would need to have four items. Here are the four items he shared:

  • I need to be in the story
  • I need to be able to choose what happens
  • I need to go to real places and it needs to have real pictures of the places
  • It needs to be an adventure where I find something cool

Other young readers shared that they wanted these four items as well. Therefore, Learn to Read Adventures was born. It is a series of ‘choose your own path’ stories that take the young readers on adventures around the globe. After downloading the app, the young readers will enter their names so they are in the story. With the ‘choose your own path’ format, when the readers are in the Amazon and there has been a heavy rain, they can choose to take the flooded low road that may have anacondas or the high road that is used by jaguars to get to the cave of hidden treasure. Rather than the traditional cartoon version of the stories, these stories will use real pictures of landscapes in the location of the story. The stories will also be available as personalized printed books.

The six-year-old app creator also wanted this project to support those in need and protect nature. Therefore, the stories will also feature products made by artisans in those locations. For example, hammocks made by local artisans in Brazil are in the Amazon story and will be available on the website to help support these artisans. In addition, he wanted to be able to protect nature, so a portion of the proceeds will also go to protect the natural lands where the stories are set.
